KNOWLEDGE REINFORCEMENT

...test with billions of permutations

Extensive research has demonstrated the effectiveness of using frequent, brief tests (5-7 mins) as a powerful method to reinforce knowledge. Research also indicates that repeated testing can serve as a viable alternative to lengthy e-learning for transferring new knowledge.

Uniquely different. Ensuring that each repeated test on a given subject is uniquely different is crucial for boosting engagement and minimising reliance on memorised answers from previous attempts.

Immediate engagement. Taking a test captures attention and avoids the common practice of requiring students to retake lengthy e-learning programs with a test at the end, even when already familiar with the material.”

Memory retention. Repeated testing strengthen memory retention and embeds a deeper understand of the subject matter

Testing effect. Known as retrieval practices, suggests that actively recalling information from memory during a test can significantly enhance long-term retention and improve recall of previously learned material.

Keep it on the radar screen. Taking a 5 minute test once a week is a far better way to reinforce knowledge than the usual “We’re done until next year!”
